Dear Parents,
Grade Two will be researching cities in Israel as a home project. Each student needs internet access. Each student will be given the name of a city in Israel that they need to find general facts and other interesting information about. The information collected needs to be used to decorate a POSTER about the city.
The following lists show some websites students can go to. Using a search engine like http://www.goodsearch.com/ is also a good place to start. I prefer that students use encyclopedias, and use Wikipedia as a last resort.
http://www.akhlah.com/israel/israel_facts.php
http://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Info:Main_Page
http://www.britannica.com/
http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/
http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Society_&_Culture/newpop.html
List of topics for facts to collect:
1. name (in English and in Hebrew)
2. 2 (or more) photos
3. How does it connect with Jewish history? Torah, Talmud, or Biblical history?
4. 2 other facts unrelated to the topics of choice
Choose 3 or more of the following topics.
-does it have a special name? If yes, then what is it? Why?
-population
-latitude/longitude
-major geographical/land features
-major water features
-date it was built
-major manufactured good(s)
-landmarks
-Is it a port city or not?
-In relation to other cities in Israel, how large is it?
